People blame a lot of things on the internet, and on peoples addiction to it. However, with the rising popularity of e-dieting, the internet may be doing more to help than to hinder dieters nation wide.

People are finding support with their weight loss goals in communities all over the World Wide Web. In the most unexpected places, people are helping each other fight flab. Even on websites dedicated to other topics, such as knitting, people are coming together. One of the tools professionals recommend to people taking on the challenge of losing weight is reaching out to a community. Having a community can offer you support, understanding, and information that you might not normally have. The added benefit of an e-community is that they are available 24 hrs a day and at the push of a button.

There are websites that are dedicated to health and fitness education popping up all over the place. These websites offer articles and advice to the people who visit them. Some of them offer a minimum amount if information for free, and then require a paid membership, but some, like Sparkpeople.com are free.

Sparkpeople.com is a great website for people looking to get healthy. It is free, and only requires registration. You can join, and begin tracking your food, water and exercise for the day. If you want, Sparkpeople.com will create a menu for you based on your BMI and your goals. If not, you just enter things in throughout the day. It will even give you a graph of your daily food intake! Sparkpeople.com will reward you with Spark points for using the various tools on the website. Once you gather enough spark points they will earn you a trophy, kind of like leveling up in an RPG style video game. It also boasts an extensive article library of articles, and a very supportive community.

I guess when people began to realize that reaching out to people on the internet was not as bad as the stigma for it in the past made it seem, this kind of progression was bound to happen. It seems to be easier to find supportive people on the internet because they gather by interest, so maybe the computer will revolutionize the world of dieting.
