One of the best ways to improve your budget and your health is to start a garden. Not only will you have a bountiful harvest of vegetables to save you money, and fill your belly, but you will be out exercising. Taking care of a garden is hard work! It is hard to plan it, and it is hard to implement it, but it is easy to sit back, and chow down on the fruits (and vegetables) of your labor.

The first thing you need to do to start your own garden is choose a location. You want a place that gets a lot of sunlight. It should get at least 6 hours a day. There should be some space, but it doesnt need to be a lot. You dont have to plant in rows, there are methods of planting in groupings that will save space. You need to consider the quality of the soil. How much work are you willing to do to get the soil up to where you need it?

The next thing to think about (and the most fun) is what do you want to plant? Get your family together and see what they want to eat. If your family is in love with all things tomatoes then plant a few different varieties. You can grow all sorts of delicious things, and they will taste much better coming out of your own garden. Of course, you need to consider what will grow in your climate. Go to your local garden store to look at seeds. They will usually only carry things that are approved to grow in your zone.

Gardening is a great way to cut your expenses, but it is also just plain fun. Going out and playing in the dirt is something that most adults dont do enough of. It can also be a family activity, most kids would go wild over getting to plant a garden and watch it grow.
